Symbols blown through aristocratic fife
symbols grown from shared, comunal life
symbol of the brass band in the extended city
resonance from urban trash cans, a rural pity...

Green spaces cut and diced
dacha plots squeezed and sliced
symbol of decadent pasts
or secluded fasts at ascetic retreats
of inspired pasts laced with poetic treats
leisure walks past ginger bread shingles
escape red square comrades, avoid urban mingle

The vision of life away from the Kremlin varies
off to the cottage you wouldn't dream to tarry
if days of Pasternak and Tolstoy are now all gone
of the current family dacha legacies, who has won?

For the aristocratic lineage it meant distinction
for Moscow apartment holders it means extinction
they've practiced crafts in the privacy of a summer home
composed their music here, and inspired their tales
the new century dacha now inspires some wails

giant dacha residents dump untreated effluent into nearby rivers
to make generations of previous Russians shake and quiver
Russia today will have to be ecologically aware
or write off Russian ways that brought them there..

Hello Jason,

Just a note to add, I am noticing of late a wider variety of subject material on this site than there was two years back back and I think it's a good thing. Even when touching on the many shades and colors of love poems, there is an endless variety of subjects to pick from. And all one has to do is be to be more cognizant of what's happening around us. Sadly to say I find too many are caught up in their own issues and ignore what's happening elsewhere.

Martin
