Affairs of the heart

Four little letters,
To spell the word "wife"-
And the same number,
Will also spell "life".

The two go together-
At least the two should.
A bit more commitment,
And I guess they would.

Promises made,
And promises spoken,
And vows of "forever",
So soon they are broken-

Repeat after me-
"Till death do us part"-
A sad melody,
These affairs of the heart.
