If I could have but five minutes of time, again, with you
I’d listen to your wisdom, hearing how you made it through.

I’d place my hands inside of yours, though arthritis pains,
And feel roughened flesh over the pulsing of your veins.

I’d look and search inside the depth of your enduring eyes,
And in them, see the joy, held in a faith that never dies.

In five minutes, I’d hold you, hug you; listen to your breath,
And think not for a moment, of the coming of your death.

A smile would be fixed upon my face, just out of peace.
Comfort would take over and my sorrows would release.

If I could have but five minutes of time, again, with you
I’d whisper, softly in your ear, “My love for you, is true,”

- And so it was that time stood still -
     (blink, breathe, stand, fight)

Alyssa, I'm glad you made it back. It is good to read your poetry again!

This poem is really good. I like the thought of making the most of every moment you have with someone. I know that it is too easy to take people for granted.

Howdy, stranger! Good to see your smiling face again--and your poetry. This poem is so full of heart and soul--and I felt it to the core of mine heart and soul! Beautiful words from a beautiful spirit.

Lovin' hugs,
EA

Krawdad,
Your right, it would be nice... if only I could actually have that five minutes..... thanks for the reply.

El Campeador,
thanks its good to be back.. apart from that I'm lonely again without my boyfriend here...
Glad you liked the poem, its sad that it takes someone dying, sometimes, to realise your love and appreciation for them.

Eric,
I'm honored, thank you!

EA,
Wasn't smiling much with the writing of this poem, I was just short of bawling. But there's a glimmer of of a smile in the peace of the thought, just wish it was true. Fuve more minutes would be so nice.... Thanks for your kind reply!

barbaraj,
thank you barbara, you're right, we all could use five more minutes....

Always, Alyssa
