The Shores of Alone

0 posted 2003-08-06 09:33 PM

Seems I was just a girl of ten
exploring life around the bay
I walked the hills without fatigue
and rode a cable car each day.

Then I was twenty and a Mom
though just a child myself it seemed
I still thought love was logical
and all my future was a dream.

At thirty, still delusional
though life had pulled me somewhat down
my stubborn heart would carry on
a soul mate I had surely found.

At forty, all alone again
believing a new start was mine
yet once again love left me out
I spent my evenings drinking wine.

And now a new decade has come
I hate to even say the word
the future looks a little bleak
though these are good years,I have heard.

I find it hard to reconcile
gray in my hair and wrinkles too
my body slowly moving south
I'm unsure the next thing to do.

Love seems less likely every day
yet in my heart I don't let go
of dreams a ten year old once had
and hope is all that's left to know.

Happy Birthday dear Sandra. I love your poem, you surely speak what many of us feel ... at times, but thanks to God the child within never disappears. It's there to remind us that every day is a new beginning, let's look ahead in excitement.
James, great reply!

I'm a wee bit older than you, lil sis, but I do understand this poem...a lot of us girls here do! It's good to look back on your life now and then, but don't forget to open the window and look to the future, 'cause the sun is shining on you!  Loved this poem from your dear heart, and am so glad to be able to share these moments with you...

you're very special...

so...

Happy Birthday, Sandra
and here's wishing you the very best today, and always...

that rainbows dance across your face
for all the joy you have given
with your words to us you have graced

Hello Sandra

Your words brought a lump to my throat and the feelings of sadness were so real.  I know for sure you have an abundance of inner beauty which you share with us through your words.  It is so nice to read your words again and I send my heartfelt wishes across the miles.

"A loving heart carries with it,
under every parallel of latitude,
the warmth and light of the tropics"

Take care my friend

I'm anchored in you
