Challenged

I've never wanted to be a challenge
nor be challenged into a relationship,
never understanding the motive behind such,
other than a lusting.

Time seduced me, "foreplay in words"
filling the gaps of emptiness
wasting what might have been
if only my emotions were under control.

The tender side of you caught me by surprise
but it didn't, couldn't last long enough
to sway me into the other me
I have never known before.

I walked the nights
filled with the "tides of change",
temptation so great that I lost site of me
"rebounding" with "illusions of the mind."

My arms are empty now, by choice.
My heart has stopped loving,
for the upfrontness staring me in the face
is beyond my understanding.

There are shades of you too blue for me,
the darker ones always making you unavailable to me
and the lighter ones barely allowing me a glimpse
into the realness of you.

There are no love letters to save
and no ribbons binding gifts of words
or a piece of your heart
meant for me and me only.

I am too precious to be second handed, or
a hand-me-down-love
like a country song in wait
and I haven't the time to spare.

I will look for "a better tomorrow"
and save my "language of love" for my dreams
and with a title here and a title there
will give myself to words
and no longer wait...on you.
