(Author note:  Donna was recently injured seriously in a traffic accident)

A Sonnet for Donna

We do not know how moods can change our way
but suffer angst when fate besets our day.
When pain from illness holds us in its claw,
We ache and cry “There oughta be a law!”
And when we break the skin and bone of life,
We bellow “Lord, please save me from this strife!”
And when life’s Reaper might be right at hand,
We’d like a bit of solace … on demand.
These are the times that friends and prayers come by
To weave their magic spell of hope so spry.
We want to gut it out with grin and cheer
and comfort those we’ve come to hold so dear.
Such thoughts can naught but offer peace and calm
We know we have the healing of love’s balm

Through rubble and trouble and dark of night
The yawn of a dawn will hasten the light
