I hear the footsteps of death
Echoing their verdict against me
At my neck, a cold cutting breath
From someone I cannot see
As I walk brisker of pace
To escape horrors of imagination
Fear grips and contorts my face
And mind reels in terror sensation
Under darkened trees make my way
The shadows deeper and colder yet
What tricks between mind and eyes will play
Giving myself over to panic I will not let

But the footfalls of doom persist
Pulse quickens, heart skips a faltering beat
Perspiration mounts as I fight to resist
Increasing urge to turn around to meet
The tormentor who follows ever
The shadow of flesh-hungry desire
Who shall stop at nothing, never
Even after I am consumed in fire

After all is said and done in the darkest end,
My own undoing was familiar, like a childhood friend

Wow, demons of your own.  Written very well.  I really get the sense of someone following you, like i should.  I don't know.  My head's not together today.  It's a good poem, nonetheless.

The future isn't now, that was yesterday.
