Gone; no goodbyes
Sudden distortion of reality
as a young girl tries
to put together a jigsaw,
shy of many pieces.

Growing and learning,
maturing girl wonders
why he went.

She wishes that man
full of mystery
could have seen her
at the prom,
at graduation;
and she wonders if he knows
she's eighteen years old
--since he never could get it right.

Often she thinks that he is closeby,
watching her trade in
her youth for knowledge.

And still,
after all these silent years,
not a word,
she feels he's coming back...

She knows...he'll be back

I wrote this on 3/4/95 (age 18) while thinking about how my father had disappeared from my life when I was 13 (I have since gained contact with him, however, in 2000 -- see, I knew!)

Shannon...this is such a lovely and touching write.
It reached in and tugged at my heart.
Painful sentiments, but beautifully expressed.

Thank you all, for your kind words.  I am new to Open (usually post in CA) and I already feel quite welcome.

And Scorpio, thanks, it is true that he missed a large part of my life, but as my mother says -- It is his loss, hee hee.  Thanks again

Some fathers just can't sit still...
enjoy your time with him, and if
he disappears again?

It will remain - his loss....

Thanks, Sunshine!  He lives in Mexico with his new wife (5 yrs older than me, and I'm 26, lol!) so we keep in contact via email.  I did see him in 2001, when he paid for my visit.  Thanks again for your encouragement.

TD, I'm sorry to hear you've been through this too.  It seems many of us have, which is really sad.  If you want to chat, feel free to email me!

Thanks, James.  I do have a special guy in my life who gives me everything I need.

This poem was written about my father, though, and unfortunately nothing can fill that void...especially when I didn't even know why he left.

All is well now, though, and thanks for your thoughts

It's so nice the two of you have found your way back to each other. You are fortunate.
