I write this because I have seen this in the work place. From our youth and at times from our older folks. The rolling of the eyes, the sigh of impatience, those hurting words said behind an older person’s back, calling them crazy because they forget or move slower than you. I write these words because I see the pain and feel their anguish.
Bonnie J. Sittler

Rage!

We are the generation who has been told to be respectful at all times, do not be rude.
We don’t feel like keeping quiet, our silence is strangling us.
We want to scream our frustration and release our suppressed anger.
Be kind, be quiet, do not upset them, they have more knowledge than we.
Why?
Who has been kind or considerate of our feelings?
Who wants to hear of our knowledge of the past and how it adds to their future?
You slash us with your words, like a sword, causing bleeding pain.
We want to raise our fists in defiance and scream-
“How dare you? Who do you think you are, a god?”
You think you know everything since you have youth-
You can do everything better because our mind and fingers are a little slower then when we were young.
You treat us as if we are imbeciles.
We are the older generation treat us with respect and dignity.
We have our health, our knowledge, and our love.
Some of us are ill, our mind leaving on a long frightening
journey.
We do not understand the void of emptiness that surrounds us each and
everyday and we cannot begin to comprehend this out of control fear we have deep inside.
Do not hide us behind closed doors in shame,
because we have gray hair, wrinkles and unwanted illness.
One day, my young friend, you will be the
older generation.
Will you want to scream and raise your fist in rage?
And scream,
“How dare you?”

You are pouring out frustration here.  Grrrr.  And I would agree, the sense of respect seems to by slipping away.
I have wondered about the biological basis for the gap between generations.  While I'm convinced that there is one, perhaps it is mainly an artifact of having tried to enlarged our sociological structures beyond the tribe, where most members had an interactive role to play.
Well, I don't suppose you were looking for that kind of analysis.
I enjoyed the read, frustrating or not.
