There are days when i can carry it off
with the style of jacki O.,
lace it up from the bottom up,
from the pedicured toes,
onto the very top,
crowned in smiley faced daisies,
a grinning idiot
in a polyglot of who i fear i may permanently become

But the moms on the soccer fields would never know,
thou they may hide it well themselves,
in their matriachs full of china closets and prozac,
passed down from generation to generation,
like famly herilooms or chicken soup recipes,
the suffereing in silence; the martyr's role.

Then there are days when truth seeps out
like scarlet red lacerations that trickle thru
even the tightest of tourniquets tied,
or out of the belly of hypocrits,
as i fear i will become,
onto the swallowed tongue.

Then karma smacks my face in flashbacks
of mirrorfuls of overmadedup clowns,
polyester pantsuit purpled eye paintedladies,
i used to feel sorry for,

that sat on city project benches cracking gum,
paying marjong on august afternoons,
collecting the bosses paycheck
and the pleasure to wear a "Mrs." crown,
that would jump up to cook dinner
when their kings of queens, came home.

And it all consumes me like a vice tightening in on what is, in all directions,
as i swim up for air sometimes,
sinking into poetic passages,
hoping they wont find me down here,
drinking more red wine,
indulging in candystore loverboys,
without guilt or apology, though im not proud either

The ultimate compromise comes on day one
when we say i do and a name gets erased, a metaphor,
onto the ultimate joy of birth,
laced with dire pain and cold grey stirrups.

And you'd really have to be a woman
to feel it from within,
the pain we wear in silent sisterhood;

though john felt it, somehow, and immortalized it in these words :
    *******
"Woman is the nigger of the world...yes she is
If you don't believe me, take a look at the one you're with
Woman is the slave of the slaves
Ah, yeah...better scream about it

We make her bear and raise our children
And then we leave her flat for being a fat old mother hen
We tell her home is the only place she should be
Then we complain that she's too unworldly to be our friend "
    **************************************
Sylvia's last poem was laced with irony ,
written in  a housewive's domain,
a love song sang to herself,
which only she could hear.

******** WOman is the nigger of the world
           words of John Lennon
** just not to confuse anyone, this is my poem
with some interjection byJohn Lennon, and a postscript (? i think thats what its called) at the
end giving kudos to one of my favorite poets,
the brilliant Sylvia Plath, may she be resting in peace finally

Michele:

as i swim up for air sometimes,
sinking into poetic passages,
hoping they wont find me down here,

nope, only us down here
ssshhhhh . . .

Holy God in Heaven!
This is THE best piece I
have ever seen . . .
hairs on my arms Michele
and I am just sitting here in awe
of your pride as a woman and how
often we fall in dirt and dust ourselves off while dusting off others before we
do ourselves.

Jesus . . . you are brilliant
and for this, you deserve one
thousand roses tossed about you
on the stage . . .

bow for the audience, m'lady
I am so proud of you
xxoo

There is so much brilliance in that mind of yours, sometimes I hold my breath while I read you. Mean it.

Reread it a few more times and with each read, I gain a better understanding of the meaning. Really really good. Congrats!
