Best friend asleep beneath a stone
Velvet coat my finger trace
Darkness falls, I am alone
Best friend asleep beneath a stone
Hazel eyes and stoic bone
Sweet breath caress upon my face
Best friend asleep beneath a stone
Velvet coat my finger trace

You got me with this. (But you knew that)

My own "Best friend" is atop the mantle now.
(No, not stuffed)

Love this, hugs you!

No, Susie...He actually IS on top of the mantle. lol  (I had him cremated)

I want to scatter his ashes in the places he liked to "haunt", while alive.

But that's just his shell, the "him" of him goes where he will.

Hugs to ya gal

Sue, oh how tender, yet sad. It's been almost six years now, and I still miss my dear Doberman. She was my hero, my best friend. Now she lays beneath her own garden of wildflowers in our backyard. To some this might sound goulish...but to me....she is still around when I tend the flowers.
wranx - our first doberman Aja, is now on my mother-in-law's mantel. Seems the family likes to take turns having her visit! Good grief...now I AM starting to sound a little "off."     Hugs to you Sue for this. Sleep well dear Bear.   Chris

Sue, I know how I would feel if something happened to my little "baby", Scooter. (See, I can't even say the word..I say "if something happened") You know, our animals sometimes understand us more than our family and friends do. Always more patient with us, it seems. Even though I know it won't be the same, I hope you can love another dog and get the same bond with another one.

Well, I didn't mean to say so much, but I do understand completely.
Hugs to you, my friend

Sue- This is, yet again, another one of your masterpieces. At first I saw it as a sad write, then I saw a bit of love and possibly some hope, or even a bit of fond rememberance. Man, you have just screwed me all up with this one... lol
Great Job.

Hazel eyes and stoic bone"
--> my two favorite lines.

What a wonderful triolet!  So touching, and beautifully written.
