Rich and Famous

Born in to a family of the rich and famous.
Born with a silver spoon in her mouth, some would say.
What do you want to be when you grow up, my pretty?
I want to be rich and famous just like mommy and daddy.

At five riding horses-
She is riding and winning in every game.
This certainly will lead this little girl to her fortune and fame.
Trophies lining the wall, a tear cascading down her soft tender cheek.

At thirteen a teenage queen-
She has been winning the crown for the last four years.
This certainly will lead this young girl to her fortune and fame.
Crowns of every size lining the shelves, sobs racking her
slender young shoulders.

At fourteen a movie star-
She stands before the crowd taking her bow,
“Thank you my loving fans for this honor tonight.”
This is her goal she believes,
to be rich and famous just like her mommy and daddy.
She stands before the mirror with silent tears,
turns, and takes one of many of the little pink pills
For depression and lonely anxiety.

At sixteen a mental patient-
She is living in a sanatorium.
The doctor saying,
“What do you want to be when you get out of here?
Where do you want to live?”
“ I want to be loved and protected far away from mommy and daddy.
They are rich and famous, they have no time for me.”

At twenty-one, a beautiful young women.
Living on an island surrounded by the rolling sea.
No more tears she does shed from loneliness
and
unheard frightened fears.
The little girl of long ago who wanted to be like mommy and daddy.
Is filled with confidence and serene tranquility.

This is a very true poem, Bonnie. How many rich, popular boys and girls end up like this...
