As the sea

As the sea makes frowns in rock
and fish float with anemone
and other ancients of the last seed,
so we are held between the wave and the weed,
at the wall of our losses
as on the wall nothing seems.

In flat life,
the cold and hated chair,
the dirty sieve,
and the shadow there,
all with the one stump complex,
as the one who succeeded only in summer sings,
as on the floor the wild citizen sits and roars,
so we are given into the throng
to yield with civilized things.

We see not the feet of the players in the street
and our fear is not like the happy old,
but in front are our silent words
and we will put the silence in our ears,
and we will set small stock of us, like pebbles,
and we will freeze that in our hate
and we will vomit out the ill and cold.

Yet much of our hate leaves us blank,
as a modern blank in modern scrawls,
the last boasting plane of hardness just here,

and then reality falls,
and then intersection,
diverse unconcern,
a chaos of large dun things,
a forgetting of old,
all used and sold.

ANNOUNCING! my novel COOL UNIVERSE is now posted
in the prose forum.  Enjoy!
