somewhere
in the cracks between
what i am
and what i was
a change occured
the merge into the collective

they dub it
adulthood
i dub it submission
to subconscious subversion
the need to fit in
overrode the need to live

i cut my hair
i ripped the piercings out
adults are not defined
by symbols i was told
and quickly learned the lie

in the picket fenced
silk tie world
of swedish furniture sets
and german cars
the new perverted hunt
for definition emerges

one that I
cannot accept
the symbols of age
are status and control
where the symbols of youth
are spirit and growth

now somewhere
in the cracks between
what i thought
and what is
a change occurs
from what I'm supposed to be

back to what i am

**my execution is off blame it on a lack of sleep i'll edit it another day suggestions are welcome

Agreed Raph . . . no edits please
We do for ourselves what we feel . . .
society does not dictate me and
it shouldnt to anyone.  As I see,
it doesnt to you either
I'll never get rid of anything about me
I am me because I choose to be
not them

This is more like you . . .
this write

Firstly, I agree with the others, don't you dare edit!  This is already brilliant, and if it aint broke dont fix it!

This emote/self-analysis is a testament to your strength as a writer and as a poet.  Of course I relate, almost too well.
A powerful write as always Raph...sometimes you just blow me away with how good you are in making us view life through your eyes.

This is a keeper~

I liked it...
To be what we want,
to find our essence
we must dare the world
finding our own symbols.

Greetings!
