As I walk through the black forest,
Thoughts of hate and anger fill my soul,
All my life I’ve believed in a lie,
As a priest heaven was my goal.

But as I watch the holy rollers,
On their knees screaming repentance,
For their misdemeanours,
It is too late and they have their vengeance.

I fight back the laughter at what I see,
All around burning corpses pray,
Unaware they are victims of the god
Who sent angels to swoop on the human prey.

They didn’t think yesterday,
That today would end their life,
The brainwashed fools eternally born again,
Into a time of biblical strife.

I was attacked in my sleep by the winged ones,
Threatened to have my life taken,
I ran into this burning wood,
And the vows of my order are now forsaken.

For this is the last time that I have been betrayed,
Never again will I subject myself to this hypocrisy,
Something is calling me to the other side,
Only time will tell, my true destiny.

So from the god I turn my back,
I will defy you until my days end,
Corrupt the minds of slaves if you will,
But this is one mind you shall not bend

I turn my eyes to the north,
The sky is covered by dark cloud,
The light of the sun retreats from the earth
That is covered by a grey shroud.

The sky surrounds me harshly,
Yet nothing do I fear,
I am against god now,
Some power of mine is drawing near.

I rise from the ground,
And fly into the night,
I laugh at this gift,
That is mine by right.

As I travel through the astral plain,
I see the break again,
The angels ascending to their heaven,
Leaving behind a sky of flames.

Lightning breaks.Across the sky,
Blackish/blue this night,
“The riders shall fly on distant clouds.”
I scream at heaven’s light.

Storm and demons they travel tonight,
Our time will soon be near,
Wrapped in a jacket of steel,
My scream no one will hear.

Armed leader am I,
The head of Lucifer’s legions,
Comprised not of evil men,
Just a very powerful horde of demons.

I can feel the storm, approaching,
The death I breathe is in the air,
The armed force smite life on earth,
But I feel no more, I no longer care.

I fight on against the mass,
Holding their crucifix,
I smite them with my axe,
Drag their souls to the river Styx.

A servant of the dark lord,
Rider of the sky,
My time has now come,
So let my enemies’ souls fly.

For one year I have reigned,
Seeking a place to rule,
Lives of many I have slain,
My axe now a bloody tool.

Death and destruction,
Be my bride,
Death to heaven,
On the storms we ride.

Visions fly into my mind,
Of fire and blood,
I scream in agony,
The image strong as a flood.

Temptation it drowns me.
Now the darkness shall approach,
This is life for me,
The evil I encroach.

This is the path I chose,
The way of the blade,
Traitor of god and neighbour,
The dark force I consciously made.

Fire flashes from the ground,
A winged beast, I watch it rise,
Its mouth spews bloody foam,
I watch it solidly with both of my eyes…

The beast opens its mouth wide,
A howling stench fills the air,
Causes even my demons to shriek,
Such is the power of his stare.

“Go now, into the plains,
Seek out the answers you’ll find,
Amidst the burning earth,
An axe you’ll grind.

Once you find the grindstone,
Turn your eyes to the night,
That is when your time will come,
To ride against heaven in flight.”

The demon drops into the earth,
Fire rages in my mind,
I see a vast barren wasteland,
So that is what I must find.

I saddle my horse of lightning,
And signal to the east,
“Find this desolate world
And on Angel’s blood we shall feast.”

For seven years we have journeyed.
Searching for this barren land,
Hoping to find the axe to grind,
So I can hold heaven in my hand.

Across the dunes we venture,
Feeling the gusts of this place,
Blistering heat and whirling sands
Is the enemy that we face.

Searing heat scorches out toes,
A great stone castle lies afore,
We march into our new realm,
And taste the sweetness of times yore.

My army begin to train themselves,
My generals plan their attacks,
As darkness descends on this plain,
I grind my stormy axe.

The lightning breaks again,
Sheets of energy fly,
Great black clouds above us
Drown the earth as they cry.

The desert rain is changing me,
Its calling on me to rise,
I saddle my horse of lightning,
And lead on into the skies.

We charge on the night,
Our axes smashing flesh,
Screaming cries of hate,
While new lightning flashes fresh.

Our horses charge through the storm,
Anger smashes at the gates,
We begin a war on the army of heaven,
And the god who within awaits.

Cannons pound across the sky,
From the clouds blood rain falls,
Axes smash at the angels,
And the demons answer my death calls.

We travel on the winds of change,
Ready to topple Jehova,
But then he emerges from within,
And a quaking fear takes over.

My demons scream as sunlight burns them,
The line crumbles as we are beat,
Swiftly I turn my horse away,
And sound out the retreat.

From the night sky a concerto sounds,
The angels wallow in their glory,
Unto the desert we fly,
While the gods retell my dark story.

I have failed the man I serve,
This can only end in woe,
He’d come for me seven hours after loss,
And then unto hell we’d go.

Now as the hours count down,
I feel the inner shame,
My time is done now,
This is the end of the game.

I sold my soul to black nature,
And served the hounds of hell,
Now I can feel the searing heat,
Of that place I must dwell.

As I feel life slipping away,
I would not change a thing,
For in these seven years,
I have lived like an honoured king.

But what have I done?
I have reached the end,
The journey awaits me,
To where my skin will rend.

It is too late to repent,
I have chose this fate alone,
This was the path I chose,
My destiny my own…

I watch in horror as the wall breaks,
From that place emerges a river of fire,
A large vessel of evil
Comes forth from that mire.

I drop to my knees and pray,
As hot tears sting my eyes,
I did not want this at all,
But heaven ignores my cries.

From the vessel a man laughs,
He cackles at the sight
Of me weeping on my knees
Trapped in perpetual fright.

“Through the flames I watch,
As you weep on your knees,
Your time has come mortal one,
As the contract decrees.

You turned against your god to evil,
But was this worth eternal pain,
Just to have armies serve you
And the life that you lived in vain.

Step forth to the ferry,
And drop that crucifix,
Your souls has been called forth,
By the never ending river styx.”

I cry at the sight,
Demons drag at my flesh,
I resist the pull of the devil,
But they trap me in magical mesh.

As they drag me to the river,
I reflect on the past,
I was a betrayed priest,
Yet I was loved until the last.

But on this night they came to me,
The were like nothing I’d ever seen,
A vision darker than death itself,
Trapped in this void so mean.

As they approached I was frozen still,
I couldn’t move, couldn’t scream for aid,
The darkness then reached for me,
That’s when the destiny was laid.

Travel in stygian,
The damned scream my name,
Travel in stygian,
I can’t repent, I have too much shame.

“The river awaits you,
Yes that’s right step aboard,
We have a very long journey,
Surrounded by Lucifer’s hoard.

You got what you wanted in your mortal life,
Now your souls is in our hands
It’s time to make the journey with me,
Through the nine damned lands.

We go to the ninth level itself,
Save your futile pleas,
We venture to Lucifer’s kingdom,
Cocytus, where you shall freeze.”

We travel on the hot winds of hell,
Travelling in this ship of pain,
I chose this fate no turning back,
The journey is the sole thing to remain.

I hear the gates close behind me,
The chill fills me with dread,
This is my new home,
The land of the dead.

To the gods and devils hear me,
Stop others from taking this path,
The storm has ended for me,
Now I must face the evil’s wrath.

I was betrayed by religion,
I was betrayed by nature,
I was betrayed by my past,
I was betrayed by my future.

I became the rider,
Carrying evil in my mind,
But this path will not save you,
So take the path of light you’ll find.

Hell only awaits those who betray,
I am one of those damned souls,
Even if you are betrayed,
Remember your honour’s goals…

This is quite the epic m'friend.

Quite artful in the construction too.

It's a thoughtful piece, the message leads one to ponder, which is something I like. It brings to mind that age-old question, "prophet or madman?" (A question I am not qualified to address.)

But I appreciate the quality of writing here, and know the tenacity, the sheer fortitude of writing the epic--and, I believe, on careful reading, you show the craft if not artistry of writing epopee, as you expound your ideas further with each stanza.

I'm sincerely happy to see you posting again Peter.

This was a fine meal of words, and I enjoyed.

Thanks alot for looking people, I must confess this poem is about a horde of things personal that have been wrapped in imagery and in place came this epic story.  Glad you both enjoyed.
