The Box

True to their beginnings
Inevitability and hope
Form a bonding
That breeds fate;
Fate, which has given me hint after hint---
The touch of the reaper’s scythe has told me as much
But still my heart would not see.

Time is so cruel,
Like a bully or mentor
It tosses the unconscious
Into the black, cool waters of life
An attempt to awaken that something…
Some of us make it to dry land
And find ourselves wandering unseen lands.

You and I have probably crossed paths
Or one day we will
So forget this haggard face,
The tattered clothing,
The smell of my essence
And my toothless grin,
Instead look in the windows of my eyes
And you can find me inside a cardboard box---
Scratching, scraping, digging,
Trying to find what lies beneath---
Under all the air, the dirt, the skin, the soul;
That which maintains our sanity;
That which sustains our every breath;
That which defines and is solitude;
That smile that can’t wait for the next morning
To raise its golden brow;
That love no words can express;
Trying to find myself.

Marcel

good read,,,

A voice of honesty
   is treasured
more than voices
   of flattery

Poignant write. Introspective and yet, outward looking.
I enjoyed this, and thank you for sharing  it, Marcel
