This is the longest heat wave that I can ever remember. Record highs are being set everywhere as my prayers for a cool snap go unanswered. My faithful fan has just breathed its last and I can't be far behind it. A lone fly whizzes past my head as if blaming me for the oprressive heat, but I have not the strength to even wave it away. Beads of moisture cling to my listless body as rivulets of perspiration trickle down my back. My throat is as dry as the parched land outside my open window. I long for some ice-cold lemonade to slake this unquenchable thirst, but I have naught to drink save for this warm insipid water. Perhaps I'll find some respite from this unrelenting heat out on the front veranda... But woe is me! 'Tis not to be! For the air is still--so very, very still and the pervading silence is far from comforting. No fresh breeze to fill my lungs or to cool me down and no clouds in sight to hide the sun. Day after day, I have patiently endured this God-forsaken heat but I cannot last much longer. Note: I'm sitting here in my nice cool air-conditioned office at home, sipping ice-cold lemonade! BluesSerenade ~ I'm with you! I love a fresh, strong breeze! It breathes life into my being! Actually I'm nice and cool and in my home study! Central air and a nice cold drink! Sleep well! EA |
