~*~

There is little comfort in knowing
it all comes down to a turn of the cheek
after laying my heart on the line
paying no attention to the obvious signs
instead I kept planting, and watering and weeding
an assortment of forget-me-nots.

Only now can I begin to comprehend
that it was nearly impossible to hold up under the burning sun,
amid the constant flurry of santa ana winds
that picked me up without warning,
reminding me that the sky doesn't get any bluer than this,
can't you see.

I took solace beneath the trees
and you were the branches I clung to
thinking I could build a fort out of my dreams
until I got carried away and let myself go
finding comfort in the rustle of leaves
falling down around my feet.

Like so many things I used to believe in
yet another season has passed
and nothing has changed
while my flowers lay dying
and my roses are wilting outside.

"an assortment of forget-me-nots."

Ain't that the truth.

Some other nice lines in here too, like:

"finding comfort in the rustle of leaves
falling down around my feet."

Blusie,
Dang that man! I hope a gentle breeze arises soon...

If tears could build a stairway and memories a lane, I'd walk right up to heaven and bring you home again.

One of these days I'll stop singing these sad songs...thanks QJ~

Ethel~ I'm fine really, I'm not about to give up.
And anyway,  I like to type.     Thanks sweetie~

Maureen~  Yes, those days always circle back
and find me in the same place.  Hugs and thank you.

Krawdad~  Being one who picks and chooses her favorite lines,
I appreciate the highlighting and for taking the time to read me.

Craig~  unlimited and thoughtful?  Uh oh, I don't want to be getting on a roll!  So nice to see you here and thanks.

Larry Dear~  My sentiments exactly!  Thanks for always supporting me,
I can't begin to tell you what it means to me.  ~smiling at you~

I'm so glad you saw something lovely in my words Nancy...
I know it sounded dark and dismal, but there were some nice feelings
tucked in there too.  Thanks for your hugs and smiles~

When the heart of a woman weeps, seas cannot hold the rain of emotion.
Of all the wonderful poetry I read here, I am never more impressed with the heart and soul of the art, than when you paint the picture.
