trickle echoes down the rock
in lazy journey with no end
drop the line and sink the cork
a gentle tug, then back again
and take me--where I am at home
grass is tall and time stands still
there I hear myself--in trill---
in joyous song of whippoorwill
In this bobbing of the cork
the peek-a-boo 'tween pool and sky
flies and lightning in my mind
storm clouds gather overhead
I felt the tug upon the hook
and reeled it in to see my prize
nothing but the bait was took--
so I grabbed another worm
watched him squirm in fight for life
as I pushed the hook in him
and denied my part in this...

Thanks so much for writing with me, and for

Now...when we going to do that again? *grin*

Ladies... this is delightful. *S* Going fishing this morning sounds much better than going to work... especially since I could probably go fishing in my parking lot... (Have you been writing rain poems again, witchy one? Claudette's calling cards woke me up. LOL)

Thanks for the escape into memories... you write well together! *S*

Did I tell you that this past Saturday morning the canoe was in the water for all of 60 seconds before I was flipped in a rapid?
Found myself waist-deep and sputtering, a paddle in one hand, a 24oz 7/11 coffee cup full of river water in the other.
Fishing gear (at least what floats) drifting off without me.

5am is too early to fish, I don't care WHAT they say!

Vicky and Karen...I  love this!!
I'm a fisherwoman, too...and I can bait my own hook, take the fish off and clean them. Now, I do have one little thing I do...I take an old wash cloth with me to wash the gook off my hands when they get dirty. That's my only quirk about fishing...when the slime gets under my fingernails, it bothers me. But, I love fishing...and eating them too.

Ya'll did good on this poem-story. I couldn't tell who wrote what. Am looking forward to more from ya'll.
Hugs to you both

Okay I got stuck in the comment that JM is left-handed (so am I - are you?) the Gemini thing?  Well now, you did not know this about me but I tie my own flies, can outfish most men as far as fly-fishing goes, and do in fact bait my own hook.  So...this great poem by two of my favorite people is going to get framed, and go into my bathroom on the wall with some other fish stories.  And brother can I identify with "not claiming your part in it all," as I feel sick everything I catch one and aplogize to its mother LOL seriously!  Love you both and what a dynamic duo are you two anyway, more pahleeezzeee?

Oh man!  Talk about a huge dose of homesickness!  I've fished, crawfished, tromped the swamps between Moisant (I don't care what they call it now, that's what it is to me) Airport and LaPlace so many times I practically lived there. And that was back in the days before I-10 was put thru - I remember the amazement I felt the first time I came upon I-10 - it was just a "cleared" area in the mist of the swamps near NORCO (didn't know it was there so coming upon it was qujite a shock) of pushed over trees and piled up brush.  I hated it!

We went to Pearl River to see my family couple months ago and drove Airline Hwy from Baton Rouge, through Kenner and Metairie then jumped on I-10 at Causeway Blvd for the rest of the trip.  Wow, what a walk through memories I've nearly forgotten, and much of 61 is still almost pristine in a few areas.

We even stopped and I showed my kids (kids- 20-somethings) and wife where I caught or saw or did so and so, and a lot of things even my wife remembers from the couple of years we lived there together...but I'm getting carried away here and all because of this "thingy" you guy's triggered!

I enjoyed this duet. But have to say (boo me if you must)....I can't do this at all.
I feel sorry for the bait, and the fish.
(*sigh* guess that's why I'm a vegetarian)

But it's still a very good write, and I loved that ending.

Honestly...I'm such a lover of all life,
that I sometimes struggle with that myself.
But...I still LOVE fishing! LOL

Rhonda...grab your tackle and come along!

Big thanks to you both...glad you enjoyed

I just wanted to pop in and thank everybody, for the fun and the warm responses. I especially want to thank Vicky--she it total joy, in friendship and in writing.

There were no awkward moments in this one, no arguments over editing because we edited together and both had a clear idea of how we wanted the meter to translate our obvious mutual love of fishing, poetry and self-discovery. She is simply amazing.

Thank you vicky.

Love you lady.

with hugs to all.

Gosh, this was really goooood! Having been an avid fishergirl and then later an avid fisherwoman, I enjoyed this poetic collaboration!--and on a literary level, being a writer of poetry myself and one who is appreciative of the fine works of others, I enjoyed this dynamite duet!

Warm hugs to you both!
