I Am A Flower

You stand in awe of my serenity of beauty
still, you refuse to understand the heart of me.

Though, I am honoured to be placed on your pedestal,
I am not meant to be a centerpiece
in your dungeon of sorts.

Still, you buy me at the corner-store florist
paying them mere dollars
for doing your dirty work;
the deed of plucking me from the safety of Eden
only to display my pealed flesh as your property
while I blend into flaunted obscurity.

I am a majesty of the earth
of feminine wiles and silken smiles
yet, in the hands of man, I am helpless.
But, I surrender to your pleasure,
one, that has the attention span of a child;
I am so desired, then neglected and forgotten.

So, here, I fight with all my might
to stand erect in comatose pose,
mute...unable to scream or swim
this vase of chemical moist
that cruelly preserves my slashed stem
and tattered nerves of roots
in your sadistic bouquet of me.

I was created to inhale the dawn's dew
to sway in the summer sunset of fire;
I am flesh of green,
scent of seraphim,
simplicity to a complex garden of the universe.
I breath,
I feel,
I live,
yet, pluck my leaves, solitary
and I suffocate to black and brown
of sorrow in your winter.

Do not worship me,
I am not to be owned or hidden
'neath your shrine of mortar, brick and glass.

Though few may gaze at my stance
for a passing second,
I am nothing
but a knick-knack of petals clinging
to the unattainable hope of freedom,
taunted by the realization
that the tick-tock of the clock
defeats away the hours
until my final days of wilt.

My silence strums a thousand words,
yet, you choose to sing only yours
in blind admiration of my soft
failing to see life from my perspective.
Did you ever pause to wonder
if I wished to be purposeful from paradise
to amuse in this passive delusion?
Did you ever stop to ponder
if the tables were turned?

Release these invisible strings from my soul,
I was never meant to be just yours, alone.
Simply because something is silent
does not mean that it doesn’t weep within.

Ah but the end is near
and once I succumb to slumber of dark
you will dispose of me in a trash can
of meaningless things.
Only then to plant the seeds of reincarnation
to continue this jaded circle of life
so, that I may re-live the same fate as ancestors before.
And, I will bloom once more
to service you and your offspring
to face the same
inevitable truth.

No, I will not be your flower
left crippled on a shelf.

Understand, that I am a flower
and you are not God.

Good for you Melissa . . .

I want to see more of this kind of writing.  I'm watching growth here and I'm fascinated by it.     Please continue...
If you aren't already published, you ought to seriously consider it.  You have much to say and I so admire your wonderful way of expressing yourself.

The stars will shine when I am gone,
the earth will turn on as before,
the gulls, still race along the shore,
the morning star, still kiss the dawn
