I yell at them Toronto Maple Leafs skating badly on TV
I accidently kick the coffee table and spill my Jim Beam
don't worry dear I'll catch that mess before it hits the new floor
ah Lord I almost had it when I tipped the table over...

I look at you and catch your frozen stare
Try to smile but I can't find one anywhere
Woman we got together for better or worse
but right now I'd be better off lying in a hearse
ooooh I can tell when you're more than just disturbed
cause honey you got a way without words!

I'm havin fun playin poker with the boys at the club
I ain't watchin the clock cause I'm winnin big time bucks
I'm settled back with king high and three aces in my hand
When the phone rings and I get the nod from bartendin Dan

I pick that reciever up and stick it on my ear
I softly say "hello is that you dear?"
The silence is like listenin to a ghost
you might not hear it but you know when one's close
ooooh I can tell when you're more than just disturbed
cause honey, you got a way without words!

I buy you brand new jeans with a leather belt attached
You try'em on n ask me if they make you look too fat
now I got a big mouth been known to hold a foot
I say "you'll always be my girl no matter how you look!"

you look at me just like a cat stalking a prey
I feel too helpless to look the other way
I try to make a joke to change the shallow mood
You don't even shift your gaze or slightly move
ooooh I can tell when you're more than disturbed
cause honey, you got a way without words!

Then sometimes dear when evening hours turn mellow
I see you look at me like I'm a lucky fellow
When the sun goes down and the lights go off I still feel that stare
You reach for me pull me close while love repairs our cares

I can feel your eyes just like a beacon light
I know you'll rescue me from the lonely night
The familiar touch I need so much comes from you
you give me the hot passion of an eager youth
ooooh I can tell when you're more than just disturbed
cause honey, you got a way without words
