We Have No Tomatoes

A sad thing, my tomato garden.
Each stem flowered beautifully at first –
green, full leaves with buttercup buds.
Now, stalks are mushy, flowers gray.
The plants, which should be loaded
with ripening fruit, are bare.

There will be no prized Evergreens.
Not even an Early Girl in July.

Still, I water them deeply, spread fertilizer
round their roots, prune off the suckers.
My neighbor picks her red Romas
and smiles. I hate that woman.

Well since you hate your neighbor, I won't tell you how mine are doing.     Maybe no tomatoes this year but how many people can grow a poem??

Can I PLEASE give you the directions to my Dad's? LOL You can pick all you want... and I won't have to play farm slave... it's a win/win situation! *S*
He has the nerve to complain that his were hit hard by the drought and following monsoon season... and they were... that caused a lot of split skins. *S* But I'm still harvesting bushels of them every week... want to play daughter for a while? *G*

I enjoyed this... especially the ending. *S*

Thanks everyone!

Suthern - haha, tell your Dad he's lucky! The soil here is red clay - the worst for growing anything! We had to bring in yards and yards of good soil. Keep pickin'!

Thanks!

Corinne
