melanin

my alabaster white hand
supports his golden brown
such a difference in shades
but the same basic structure
just one has more melanin
a different genetic code

yet I can read the faces
of strangers that stop and look
knowing their curious thoughts
Ahhhhh ... see that nice lady there
adopting a foreign child
or hmmmm ... how old is that Mom

But none of that bothers me
for like the sweet childhood song
"red and yellow black and white
they are precious in His sight"
being the Mom and Grandma
of a rainbow family
suits me just fine

Sweet poem, with a good message. It's only a little melanin that makes the color of different people's skin different...

Thanks to all of you for leaving me lovely replies and for taking the time in which to do so.  This one is dear to my heart since it is written about my precious 2 year old grandson.

Oh and Jason, an additional thanks to you for the "beautiful" comment.  That was sooooooo nice of you to say.
