where the wild flowers grow

0 posted 2003-07-13 06:04 AM

The slug runs,
cool summer breeze..Leaves
a small trail
for me to follow.

The slug pants,
for he is quite tired and
one step to him
is like a mile.
So I pace myself, slowly,
placing the weight of my foot by his side.

The slug smiles,
for he knows I've got all the time in the world
to follow him.
I speak as if he understands,
I find comfort in his silence..
Yet, bellowing in my mind is the very thought that
perhaps he, too, is speaking.

The slug leads,
though slow and not quite so graceful
he knows what it's like to
enjoy life..slowly,
and stops to smell every flower,
taste dewdrops on each leaf.

The slug is inspiring for
he not only guides, but he
shows that every one of us isn't perfect,
yet we can walk miles in his shoes..
He makes that very easy
to do.

This is a really good poem...well written.
But, I was wondering what "a slug" is.
After reading the replies, I'm wondering
even more what it is?  LOL

enjoyed this POV
but slugs crawl, not run, and do not have feet

but of course, they can teach us all a lesson or two, as all creatures do if we'd but listen

I'm keeping this little gem in my library. THANKS!
