Tranquility

Down by the edge of a windy shore,
Where the wild seas foam and waves roar,
A lonely figure of solemn grace
Steadfast in purpose and determined pace;
Wind blown hair, riotous free….
Along the stormy shore walked Tranquility
Ever and anon she looked hopefully
For sight of a sail on the stormy sea.

Was it long ago that he vowed “Tranquility
I pledge my love and life to thee.
On the morrow I set sail to find
What fame and fortune may have in mind;
Thy love shall be my beacon light
To guide my purpose through many a night.
Tell me that thou will wait for me
On these stormy shores, Tranquility”.

Ah but youthful folly bade her reply
“Think not this as deceit or lie…
Let fame and fortune guide thy way
A better beacon than love may
So get thee hence out to yonder sea
Life or love I cannot pledge to thee…
Upon thy return should I be free
Seek thy answer when thou cometh to me.”

Tis well known throughout the land
That many a noble vied for her hand
But heart and mind gave her pause
There was only one with nobler cause
Though he be of common, simple means
Yet in her thoughts he reigned supreme
So ever and anon she looked out to sea
“I await my love… come back to me.

“Many years have passed in endless wait
Since thou left these shores to find thy fate
And in lonely solitude youth slipped by
Long ago since thou bid goodbye.
Ah !But hope burneth with brighter flame
To put a candle or hearth ‘ashame.
I await thee love…come ask of me
I’ll pledge my life and love for thee.”

And on many a night when the sky is clear
And no sign of storm or cloud near
Moonbeams frolic on gentle waves
That caress the mouth of hidden caves
There on the shores of deserted sands
Walks a ghostly figure with outstretched hands
With riotious hair flowing free…
Still waiting for her love by the edge of the sea.

A charming love story, Tranquillity, with a lesson, I think.  Enjoyed!

Anwaar, I really enjoyed the imagery and rhythmic flow of words in this piece, especially the above quote.
