Ad dress ing My Nakedness

It was years before,
and the choice
was not mine.
I was captured, enamored
by the sounds of silent words.

I rode the Kaleidoscope of rides,
the ever changing sense of feels,
the widespread thoughts
that would narrow me down to you.

And I glowed in the evening's rush
as each turn of you, produced
a new color in me,
a startling brightness, a flickering
of hope.
Was it all just an illusion?

I think not.

As in each phase produced,
my heart would grow and learn
and even resist, if the challenge
became too great,
with little reward.

Like paycheck to paycheck,
I live day to day, dreams on hold
with only naked thoughts, my path of words,
to adorn me.

I've used up my three wishes,
the genie has returned to her lamp
that now rests upon my shelf,
worn from the rubbings, my touches,
that have outlived their use.

I picture you daily in the oddest ways,
making it easier to do without
but still bringing a smile to these lips
that know no other's kisses.

The Lady often rises in me, and the mirror
has begun to please the other side, too.
It's just we-three, who
have finally learned to get along,
knowing we can handle the loss
but wishing it were different
if only time would address my nakedness,
some day.
