I sat at home,
one night
waiting
for the phone
to ring;
after a while,
I began
to wonder
why
I sat at home,
waiting.

icebox...I used to do that in my teenage youth and a bit beyond, waiting for some boy usually, and wondered the same thing.

I'm always afraid that I will miss something.  Most of the time...I do.

Loved this.

Step out of the house....lock the door and turn to walk away. You will hear it ring.

If not, well, you made a decision, didn't you?

Hello, Iceman
You've written a very good point to ponder.
We just have to figure out if the wait is
worth it, don't we?

I understand this as will many others...
my life is on "hold" and I have to ask myself daily...why?

Not me!  I have a life to live.  However I was a waiter of phone calls once way back when.  I enjoyed this look at an everyday happening that all too many don't admit.

Bill Charles ~ I did stop sitting home.  I did get an answering machine, actually I have one at home and one at work.  I've been told the one at work is "spooky" by more than one person, but they never can explain what they mean.  Thank you for reading and for taking time to comment.

Martie ~ *smile* I do recall being told that you guys were programmed to wait by the phone.  I just can't do it anymore.

quatro ~ *laugh* I don't even answer the phone most of the time.  Why is it that some people HAVE to answer a ringing phone?  I'll never understand that one.

Ratleader ~ Well, yes!  Of course.  Thank you for taking time to read and to comment.

passing shadows ~ Hmmm...time is funny stuff, isn't it?  Thank you for reading my poem and for telling me.

Kahlil ~ I've just about given up on email.  My server deletes so much of it all on its own that I never know who is sending me what.

garysgirl ~ Oh, I made my decision; no more waiting around to die.  Thank you for your comment.

Earth Angel ~ Yes, me too.  I admit I did it.  (But no more   *smile* )

nakdthoughts ~ You raise a good point.  I think there are enough externally imposed constraints on life that we should try to eliminate the internal ones.  Now, I admit, I do have other behaviors which are self limiting.  But, then, I'm not the Buddha. *smile*

Bonfirelight ~ I agree!  Thank you for your comment.

gemjop ~ Well, there are still some souls to whom I owe apologies.  I do hope they are not waiting. *smile*

Pilgrimage ~ I am glad you liked it.  Thank you for telling me.  Call someone?  Hmmm...no, I would not do that.  Well, maybe the Pizza place...

Aenimal ~ Yes, Ed's pretty cool!  Thank you for reading my poem.

Mysteria ~ I guess maybe it is just one of life's simple lessons; it took me a while to learn it though.  Thanks for reading and for your comment.
