Proud People

I have seen the eagle soar
into the sun
never to return
to this empty barren land.
This was once a land of bounty
now a land of desolation.
This was the land of my forefathers,
a nation of a proud people.
I have walked
these canyons and played
in the crystal clear waters.
I have climbed
the
highest mountain and talked
to my ancestral ancestors of old.
My eyes have seen the mutilation
of
our sacred burial grounds.
I have seen
the buffalo become
extinct and our old ways
disappearing into the vast universe.
I am a proud man
who has been moved from the land
of
my forefathers,
and yet moved again,
farther and farther from my mountains
and
the clear crystal steams of my youth.
The old men dream their dreams
and
tell the stories of the past
and o
f their forefathers.
I am an American Indian.
We are a proud nation.
We are a proud people.

Good one Bon Bon...this one reminds me of that ol TV commercial...the one where the American Indian is riding his horse up a mountain side in the 20th Century and there is trash, soda cans, paper bags, beer bottles laying all around....and you know something, no matter how bad it gets, this is still the best nation in the world to live in...regarless...you touched on a grand and very sentimental write...thank you for the reminder.  Love to you and yours.  Lee J.

Wonderful write Bonnie, and so true!

I have one in the treasure chest titled "Where Have They Gone"

Maybe I will post it soon...

This was very much enjoyed!

Thanks for sharing it with us
