Etched in the illusion of time

0 posted 2003-07-07 04:38 PM

You whispered to me of twilight dreams
Frozen between your palms
Whilst the world fell,
I was yours...

It is that silent
The way the memories come

Painted stars above me sing,
Of hope,
Of light.
Why, oh why does the darkness bring,
Destruction?

Friendship is a dying rose today,
Her crimson flesh all faded with the years
Petals torn, stem so used.
In my eyes, 'tis beautiful still,
Like you were, long ago

Sweetly, sweetly hear me die,
Blissful, blissful; a lullaby
Softer than those hands of gold

Oh, how I knew you well.
'Round your finger you wound my hair
Of cinnamon
Promising me simple things.
Forever,
Or perhaps just another lie

That day when you come back to me,
Maybe one day
Life will change

But for now,

I am content with remembering
You
and how you told me I was the sunrise
But that was only because you colored me with your flaxen dye
Of love
Discovered by your fingers...

Yet stolen with a kiss.

For saints have hands that pilgrims' hands do touch,
And palm to palm is holy palmers' kiss.--"Romeo and Juliet"

quote:
Flax Is an Ancient Crop

Flax has been grown since the beginnings of civilization, and people all over the world have celebrated its usefulness throughout the ages. Cultivated flax, L. usitatissimum, is of two types: one is grown for the seed and the other for fibre production. In North America, it is primarily the oilseed varieties which are produced commercially.

Historians weave the magic of flax into ancient history. Records show that the human race has eaten this seed since early times.

About 3,000 B.C. Flax is cultivated in Babylon.
Burial chambers depict flax cultivation and clothing from flax fibres.

About 650 B.C. Hippocrates writes about using flax for the relief of abdominal pains.
In the same era, Theophrastus recommends the use of flax mucilage as a cough remedy.

About 1st Century A.D. Tacitus praises the virtues of flax.
About 8th Century A.D. Charlemagne considered flax so important for the health of his subjects that he passed laws and regulations requiring its consumption.
About 15th Century A.D. Hildegard von Bingen used flax meal in hot compresses for the treatment of both external and internal ailments

And now...
flax is a poem.  And a lovely one....
