Never close enough

"You'll be sorry when I'm gone", He used to tell me.
Then He was trying to make me feel guilt over
giving him an ultimatum.

"You'll be sorry when you are here all alone,
no man to lay beside you at night."

I look back now and I realize that I was already
over and beyond our life together.
It was He that had no one, or no where to go.

"You'll be sorry when I'm not here for you
to talk to in the wee hours of the night"

I recall that He was never there anyway, and that
was why I handed out the untimatum. He had to choose.
A life with me, or a life somewhere else.
He couldn't have both.

"You'll be sorry when I'm gone, and you will look
back and regret asking me to leave"

I've had many feelings since our departure...
Regret not being one of them.

I saw him today at the bar on Main Street,
He turned and eyed me as I walked past.
The look on his face was so sad.
He was alone.

Now, I can only wonder if he's sorry that he's
the one thats gone?

Some women wait for something to change and nothing does, so they change themselves.

The lesson surely isn't easy to learn. He feared to be alone himself all along, but would not admit it. Now the feeling of loss has him in its grip.
Well written!
Love and hugs. Margherita
