I did not expect to find a smile
As I prowled along the grocery store aisle,
But a certain amount of lunacy
Attacked the visitors crowding aisle three.
The radio played a distinctive rift
And the notes reached out, our spirits to lift -
"I've got sunshine on a cloudy day"
Suddenly shopping lists were miles away.
An elderly man shoved aside his cart
And clasped his laughing wife to his heart,
The stock boy spun his mop and pail around
As we enjoyed the moment we had found.
Canned grapefruit juice was my partner of choice
During the chorus, we all added voice
To an off-key bellowing of "My Girl"
One lady gave a "Big Sale!" sign a whirl.
The management might have frowned in dismay
As a brave duo tried to dip and sway
But nobody wanted to miss the chance
To lose cares and woes in song and dance.
The song ended, and a bit sheepishly
The customers moved away from aisle three.
The delight we'd shared didn't stay behind
I smile still as memories tease my mind.

Ruth, I sure am glad that JM persuaded you to repost this delight. It's beautiful and carefree and I love it.

I could picture us all in the aisles of the grocery store just dancing away. LOL

Awesome!  My daughter said to me after I read this, "Now what are smiling about?"  Seems I don't do that often enough.  This is wonderful.  Hmmm, last time I went to the grocery they were playing a Moody Blues song.  I think maybe they should pump in some dance tunes.

Good write!

JM: Naw... truth is, I kinda like the nagging... and will swear I never said that so don't be getting any ideas... and don't expect to get your way again this year! *G* Thank you very much, lady... it means a lot to me when someone likes a poem enough for another round. *S*

Seymour: I did look for you... but you already had a partner and a line waiting to cut in!  *G* Thank you, my friend. *S*

Sunshine: Know? *G* I depend on it! LOL ROFL @ tunes in your head... have fun sashaying along to them today. *S* Thank you!! *S*

garysgirl: Shhhhhh... don't tell her this... but since it's the only time I've had a request for a repost, I couldn't resist her. *G* Thank you! *S*

jellybeans: I'm glad it gave you a smile, my friend... wish I could make smiling a permanent condition for you. *S* Thank you!

Martie: It did. *G* Mind you, I'm not saying who started the whole debacle... not as long as they're still letting me in the store. LOL Thank you very much! *S*

Feathered One: ROFL... You sweetie! *S* Gimme some leather huggzz... and thank you so much! *S*

Patricia: I'd be worse with a Moody Blues song... I sing along... and there's a real good reason I don't sing in public! LOL Thank you very much... I'm glad this gave you smiles. *S*

This was so cute. How many times I have hummed a tune or did a little dance step or smiled at a tune they where playing.
This remined me of a few years ago my sis came to visit. We hadn't seen each other for about 17 years. My son was about 13 at the time. We went to the Kroger store and you know how we always tell our children not to run in the store and behave.WEll.......
HeeHee. We decided to run and hide from my son like two little kids. We giggled and laughed so much fun we did have. What a lasting memory.
Thanks for sharing.

The other day my friends and I were singing "so happy together" at the top of our lungs, while we were touring "scenic Lewes" and we kept being approached by total strangers. We must be so cool then, for making total fools of ourselves That's absolutely hillarious. Trust me, insane people are smarter than we think they are
