A poem I've been working on for a while now....this arose from a discussion I had with a fellow poet a while back.

FuNeRaL

Do not offer me words of encouragement,
wishes of best
to my words of pain,
this life of less.
I am pathetically pathetic, yes,
but, clever am I to your false attempts.

Do not throw your benevolence
against skin walls
hoping it will stick.
Temporary strong arms cannot save me
in my fling of self on the mercy of pen.

And, I’m numb of trying to make you believe
that my pour isn’t just a hobby, it’s exemplary.
So forgive me
if this isn't the sweetness you've known
or if this drama isn't one of my masterpieces.

I ask not for a shoulder to cry on
or smooth sheets to rest my bones,
I am beyond repair
and seek not your safety
for this selfish endeavor.

I ask not for pity or wisdom inked,
just eyes of mute replies;
For, I’ve never been miss popularity
and need only more attendants
for my funeral.

Melissa:

this is the best line I have read in awhile . . .

in my fling of self on the mercy of pen

Serenity tiptoes in quietly and places a single rose on the coffin, says a silent prayer and exits.
