I do not sleep well of late.
I try,
I stretch my soul to reach you;
on good nights
you seem just beyond the edge of touch,
yet always
like smoke on the wind;
you slip through my thoughts
and are gone.

I love you.
I miss you.

I do not sleep well of late.

Icebox, I don't sleep well either...
This line: "I stretch my soul to reach you"
says it all.
Thanks for sharing....it's right on....

Hate that -- hate it! Looks like we suffer the same fate, when we suffer the same fate....and you put it to bed with elegant simplicity.

'Tis sad - For our dreams can take us anywhere we choose.  Too bad "sleep" is a mandatory prerequisite, eh??..

I found the solution:
I work nights.

I am always cranky, so I gave up on sleep and read all night.
But I am sorry you cannot sleep peacefully.

I had gone through a long period of this...stretching my soul and never reaching him.  It has finally passed now.  Perhaps it was realization that I couldn't.

I hope you sleep well tonight.

icebox...

"on good nights
you seem just beyond the edge of touch"

This reaching aches...no wonder you don't sleep well.  Yet, you continue, perhaps because you believe it's possible. I do too!

Sleep? There's a sleep? When did that come out? Anybody got an extra one?

Oh I sleep all right, only because that is when I breathe the easiest...however fleeting my dreams may be.

Then I wake up cranky, simply because I have to wake up and carry on.   I love your way with words and all the feelings you convey.

Kahlil ~ Glad you liked it.  Thanks for telling me.

Ratleader ~ *smile* "They" tell me it is the fate of old men.

passing shadows ~ Well, I guess it is public now!  We are NOT sleeping...well... together.   *GRINNNN*

Nan ~ Oh god YES!  I love dreams (almost always).

Enchantress ~ Glad you liked it; thanks for telling me.

Midnitesun ~ Yup, I already figured that out about you. *smile* (HEY, no throwing things at me!)

Sunshine ~ Well, yes, I do think understanding is better.  My problem with understanding is that it never helps me to feel better.

Patricia ~ I think it just does not respond well to forced thought.  Although...

Martie ~ Yes my friend, under all the crust, some silly part of me believes.

JamesMichael ~ *laugh* It sure can make life a bitch can't it?

littlewing ~ shrek?  OK, but to which character do you relate?

2dalimit ~ Thanks.  Thank you for reading and for yuor comment.

Aenimal ~ Oh MAN!  Didn't you get the memo???  You had to choose it as a factory installed option.  There are NO after market parts on this, sorry, but remember: "Mother Nature Cares about YOU!"  *big smile, BIG SMILE* "NEXT!"

See, if this option is not in your original contract, then you really blew it on the sleep thing.  Better just go long in tedious novels; maybe become an expert on Milton (the author, not Berle) I'm told even Mrs. Milton thought he was boring.

*grin*

gemjop ~ Sometimes my dreams are very effective magic, but I have to get to them first.  Thanks for reading and for telling me.

Skyfire ~ OK, well if I find an answer, you will read it here! *smile*

Local Rebel ~ Yeah, exposed.  Hey? Does that make me a cardiac flasher? *smile*

BluesSerenade ~ Hmmm...maybe my problem is having had to sleep with one eye open for too many years?  Thank you for reading my poem and for your comments.
