in the shadows

0 posted 2003-07-05 02:16 PM

It is better to feel empty
than feel nothing at all,
the deep heatless vacuum
that leaves me hollow to the bone.

Even numb means I'm aware
of being numb,
to have no reference
not even preference for the anger
hate or pain
you left me holding
as you slipped between the shadows,
yet still aware
of feeling numb.

Empty
means I can define my limits,
know my boundaries,
feel a bottom,
touch my sides,
calculate my volume;
it's only nothing
in disguise.

I can fear feeling empty;
I can hate or love
feeling numb;
even sense them coming,
as I watch
what I become.

In nothing
I'm as limitless
as clear night skies,
in the South,
before the Southern Cross
can arise from deepest blackness,
beyond black.

Nothing
means I realize,
if I should let go,
I won't know I've gone
and never know a reason
to come back.

The thing is, icebox, if you are nothing, then what is this feeling you give in poetry, profund and deep.  If you are nothing, then I should not feel such ache from reading your words.  So, the conclusion is, that you are something, not nothing...and definately not empty!!  (I am not usually so logical)

I experienced this feeling a few years ago and it is not a place I would wish on anyone...how did I move on...life has a way of moving you on...James

And for those of us who are still inexperienced with life, we wish to be able to feel NOTHING   Good read, I really enjoyed it, thank you

and now you've gone and made "nothing" SOMETHING...

shaking my head.

You are delightfully maddening.

I wish I had written this

you speak of the void.........and the instinctive fear
humans have for it
all we know of it..is that it is there.....

that black suffocating chasm
that eludes our senses

damn....
very nice

I am so there....except that I still feel.
It's like walking a tight rope,
and wishing I would fall to one side or the other and be done with it.

It is better to feel empty
than feel nothing at all,
the deep heatless vacuum
that leaves me hollow to the bone.

Even numb means I'm aware

I think I'll sleep on it.

icebox~ You are one fine poet you know!!

I would have sworn I'd burned all my diaries. *S*

Excellent write, icebox... however unsettling the remembrance. *S*
