alchemy

please stop and think a moment

perhaps your dear memories
are nothing but alchemy
slowly transmuted into
a mysterious new form
of the love and lust recalled

romanticizing bygone
days with abundant feelings
full of the warm and fuzzy
in a desirous fashion
often clouds reality

events in the past can carve
strong pathways in one's head
leaving lasting passages
influencing our thoughts
and passions in the present

we do not always realize
that powerful memories
with time become creative
blendings of fact and fiction
pleasant reminiscences

images are alchemized
by mixing experience
with emotions bringing back
jagged pieces of events
which falsely highlight the whole

So while our recollections
feel absolute they are not
because memory never
captures life like a camera
instead it simulates an
impressionistic painting

Please remember this

Janette

Isn't that the truth!!

We sure don't always remember it like it truly wasy..sure wish our memory did have a camera..I'd like to be able to go back and take another look at situations. Enjoyed this Janette.

I enjoyed this beautiful and wise poem.
The reference to an impressionistic painting is great.
There are distortions of our memories, but evoking them in a special light can be really pleasant.

BluesSeranade - Lady, you flatter me and I sure did enjoy it, too...hahahha THANK YOU!

James Michael - hummm perhaps?  Ahhhhhhh come on James, you know us romantics tend to paint our memories with dabs of our brushes rather than full strokes.  hahaha

Local Rebel - Thanks for the connect.

Poet deVine - I agree with you, wish my memory was as sharp as a photograph, for it would save me much grief, I think.  Thanks.

Margherita - I was trying to be discerning.  There are so many broken hearts here at Passions, and I certainly have been there done that, too, that I felt inspired to post this piece.  Thanks

Thomas - thanks Buddy for the read!

Martie - not bad for a blonde huh?  hahaha!  Thank you for commenting, I do appreciate it.

Enchantress - So glad that you liked this one, thanks for your reply.

Temptress - Ahhhh ... what a dear message to leave me girl friend.  Thanks
