When at last comes fall of day
And Helios paints his grand display
Across the breadth of western skies
Behold the glory; night’s arise.
Venus whispers in the night,
With gentle glow of angels’ light,
As Orion calls his flock together
To shepherd over mortals nether.
Polaris leads night’s rush to arms,
To marvel earth with welkin charms,
A million stars heed heaven’s call,
Charging forth at daylight’s fall,
Comes splendor of a rising moon,
To haunting call of distant loon,
Serenity of summer’s night,
Beauty of star’s distant light,
Heaven glowing opaline,
A special time, comes vespertine.

I'm sure several other areas of the country
receive a celestial display as we do...but
there is something about Kansas skies,
and clear starry nights...
and the chirping of crickets, isn't there, Tim?
