Annabelle

Annabelle has walked these shores for a lifetime.
She gazes towards the crashing waves with weariness in her heart.
The year was eighteen seventy when she lost her
sweet Thomas to these rolling waters.
He had left with angry words never to return to his loving Annabelle.
She was not able to tell him she was with child, a father he would be.
Her son, Thomas Jr., plays in pristine sands, building
sand castles and playing warrior with the crashing waves.
Her love for Thomas has held steadfast, has never given her torn heart to another.
She walks the shore, hoping maybe just maybe he will return.
As the days and years roll on by, she continues to walk these sandy shores.
As she leisurely walks a warm gentle breeze casually plays with her long silver hair.
She slips off her shoes and the warm water tickles her pale delicate toes.
She feels something nudging at her feet; she jumps back in surprise.
She smiles, only a bottle, touching her toes with each caressing wave.
Curiosity she does feel as she gazes down at this bottle, something is in the bottle, and it looks like a piece of paper.
As she picks up the tinted bottle of brown, a strange tingling feeling brushes against her
fluttering heart.
After a short time the paper falls into her trembling hands.
As she reads tears flow down her aging face.
She falls to the ground and cries.
Oh! My darling Thomas.
As she cries as if her heart will never mend these words she does read.
“My sweet Annabelle these words I send to you.
I love you darling girl and if the gods allow, this message will flow into your loving hands.
You have my heart darling girl: there has been no other.
Oh! It is so cold. It is getting hard to see.
I’m sorry for my angry words, please forgive.
So cold, so tired.
I seal this bottle with a kiss, my love.
Good bye. Be happy my darling girl. Good bye.”
Oh! Thomas, is her reply. Oh! Thomas.

Here in the midst of my lonely abyss, a single joy I find...your presence in my mind.  Unknown
