She says she loves me though
She's said she loves coffee
She's said she loves books
She's said she loves that movie

I ponder just
where it is I stand
amongst these things
Am I loved equally
or above them?
More than some
and less than others?

Love..

A word once revered
by lovers and poets
tossed around
without conviction
by people by adverts
a new kind of slang

Stripped of its
power and purpose
each time I hear it
I bow my head in sadness
at the rape of a word

we have officially raped the word "love." We REAPED it!! How could we?!?!

i think it is very important to tell someone you love them only if you mean it.. and not to just to hook up with the person

Well, Sir, your muse may be on holiday but she clearly left you with all her tools.

You are right about the loss of meaning of the word love.  I still laugh at times about some research from just a few years ago that showed most women rank both love and sex behind a good baked potato in level of importance.

Bah, humbug.  It's overused...ah, the word love, that is...unless you know the person, and their substance....and their effusiveness...

Enjoyed, Raph....once again, despite the humbug....

Raph, my muse is missing also. At least you still have an awesome way with words with or without your absent partner. Enjoyed. Chris

Well.

Hmmm.

On a personal note, it's a two way street.

Sometimes words fail ME--Sometimes I fail words. That is when the language of eyes comes in, tho...they tell truth, lovie.

They do.

yes, it is a very sad thing..

I KNOW this word and I completely agree with you . . .

I despise when IT is tossed around
like hello, or how ya doin . . .

A write much needed.  Too many people I think dont even KNOW what love is.
That is so sad . . .
*nodding head*
an awful crime indeed

Good thought here....it's like the overuse of superlatives....use "fabulous" to describe something mediocre, and what linguistic escalator can you get on next?

There is some language... my mind is playing blonde right now and only letting me recall a few bits of info *S*... where one word has many meanings depending on intonation... even English has its share of multiple meanings for one single spelling...

Which is a long-winded way of saying yes... in our effusiveness and laziness, we do overuse the word... applying it when we really mean like or enjoy... or lusting. *S* But does that really make the word mean any less when it's exchanged between two people in deepest sincerity? Especially when connected hearts speak without need of words... and eyes speak silent volumes? *S*

Now see what you get for making me think on a holiday morning? LOL I did enjoy this... very much... and agree in spite of my ramblings. *S*

Thanks Dix grins

Ed there's so many words i could have chosen, make this a serial poem on the destruction of the english language

Suthern it causes enough doubt that one wonders at this point if anybody truly understands just what love is

Good points made here, I often think the same way about the overuse of this word ... love.

Would you give me an atomic wedgie if I said that I L-O-V-E this poem?!!!

Seriously though, you've penned another keeper...and you hafta stop doing that cause my library is full of yer stuff and well umm you're making me all jealous of your talent
You always seem to write the things that I am thinking and of course you say it with more depth and flair than I ever could.
I've always thought that the words 'love' and 'friend' are perhaps the most overused and insincere at times....

GAWD sometimes us chicks just won't shut up huh?
See, it's all your fault for being too good of a poet!

this reminds me of a quote I saw the other day online...

"Love & baby ...

the two most overused and abused lines in the cyber world."

So...is this where I say:

OH BABY ... I LOVE THIS POEM!

Cool write poet sir... well done.

Well ... OK ... but you have to wash it first.

*tiptoes in* I was being that standoffish English bleep again wasn't I. where do you hide these? why do i always miss them?

This, struck a chord, as i'm sure you know. Why do people use the word, why? why? then abuse everything it stands for. I have a prime candidate, for someone who despite what he believes, does not know the first meaning of the word. Actually, i know quite a few. sad really isn't it.

sigh.

But, I love you and your words Raph. So i spose the word lives on, irrespective of who destroys its essence.

muchos hugs minhgemnchhherrrr

Wow, Aenimal.  You are so right about this.  (But I have never know you to be wrong.)  The other word I believe has gotten a bad rap is "adult."  This word used to mean a person of maturity.  Now it means...well, think about it..."adult movies", "adult website", "adult magazines" and so on.

I so enjoy your work.  Man, you make me think.  Didn't I just tell you that last night?  Oh well, it doesn't hurt to hear it again, does it?

I don't know how I've missed this.. but Sir Raph, I enjoy it when you think like this and then pen it so powerfully. And yes the word "love" def overused. It just doesnt seem sacred anymore huh? and what Karen said..it's in the eyes.

keeping this.
