There is a pothole down the street,
That lays in wait in summer’s heat,
To grab poor souls who might pass by,
Beneath a hot and humid sky.

Its appetite is quite voracious,
You see its guts are huge and spacious,
Cats or dogs or squirrels or mice,
An occasional bicycle to it seems nice.

But its favorite snack, best eats of all,
When in its clutches one might fall,
Is a Volkswagen bug, to snack upon,
Tires, wheels and engine, one gulp, they’re gone.

No one knows how deep it goes,
Or where things go, when sucked belows,
The only thing that I can say,
Is keep your pets and kids away.

But I can say, with some delight,
That I have survived, the pothole’s bite.
That pothole spit me out its innards,
I guess even potholes have some standards.

So ends my tale of pothole deep,
I hope that you will ever keep,
Away from it as you pass by,
So long, farewell, to all goodbye.
