Inside the shadow's shadow

0 posted 2003-07-03 02:06 AM

There's a silent man across the desert
A lonely only mile from here
And I, in turn, am silent too
I will distract him, I can only fear.

A shaggy, greasy head of hair
A wrinkled, knowing mouth
Last week's clothes, and dirty toes
A frown that is due south.

He studies the cracked, the barren ground
With his forever-red-stained fingers
He believes the only creature 'round
Is a dead spider that still lingers.

I'm crouched behind a scorching rock
Admiring his contentment
Wishing I too was happy alone,
Rather than feeling pure resentment.

I've followed him and his one bag
Slung over his two strong shoulders
For long enough to know by now
Solitude moves unseen boulders.

And invertly thanking the man
For teaching me such ways
I'm headed off to find my own
Deserted desert days.

I do not know whether I was then a man dreaming I was a butterfly, or whether I am now a butterfly dreaming I am a man.

KoKo ~

You're hot, KoKo! Desert hot! This was deep and deserving of three reads! There is real substance to this write--and to your mind and creativity!

I feel the same way as the man in you're story...I really related to this

I said I'm going to buy a gun and start a war,
If you can tell me something worth fighting for
