Visiting Earth on a Guest Pass

sometimes the wasp
sometimes the spider
sometimes neither
but never both

each kills the other
each wills to life
the wasp would lay eggs
the spider would feed

sometimes the wasp
sometimes neither

one a creature of air
can land and sting
one bound to the earth
can leap and bite

sometimes the spider
but never both

neither immune, each prey
and the poison of each
kills the other or worse
leaves it living but dead

sometimes the spider
sometimes the wasp

neither hate nor remorse
nor fear nor anger
certainly never love
only matching hungers

sometimes the wasp
sometimes the spider
sometimes neither

but never both

Liked the read...once planted a wasp on a wolf spider's web as a teenager to watch what you describe and watched the topaz winged wasp do it's thing on a trap door spider...maybe it was a National Geographic special..the contest mirrors the greater struggle of the forces in balance..or just slightly out?

Have you ever thought how some people do this to each other...then they both are destroyed in the process.

Very interesting, Ed.
I like the way you repeated the parts of it.

I love the many layers of this... *S* A wonderfully written observation of nature and destiny? Or a piercing commentary on relationships that never should be but sometimes are... or still more? *S* All of the above? *S*

Both is definitely an option in poetry... thank goodness! *G* (And if it's neither, blame it on lack of coffee *G*)

Wonderful write, Ratleader... However I interpret it, I like it. *S*

Oh, the "tangled web we weave"...

Looking at that microsmic world of struggling for survival, can tell us a great deal about our own.

Cleverly orchestrated, maestro!

Stay fit! For it is the fittest who shall survive!

And such is the struggle in life...

This piece fascinated me so much that I read it twice, to make sure I did not miss a thing.

Enjoyed.
