Porch Love

She had shared only her thoughts
              Plus a photo, or two
                             to this strange young man
                                            who pleasured her view

“Why don’t you take me back,”
              He had said to her,
                             “To when you were young,
and gold filtered through your hair.”

The old porch that took up their talk
Held memories of so long gone,
She wondered of the remnants of men
                                            And who had wandered on.

This young pup of a slim man
              Held others’ eyes of blue
But there was tender in his tone
                                            And she was lonesome, too.

She sipped her wine,
              And then she slightly winked
Slipped her hand into her purse
And drew a photo to it’s brink

She gazed on it thoughtfully,
              Then blessed the candle’s glow
Said, “here is one for you, my son,
                                            When I was younger.  So?”

He looked upon the younger her
In a photo so old with time
But there she was, a little blurred
And then he sipped his wine.

With a smile, he pocketed the print,
“No doubt the gods had you in mind
when they first pondered, my dear,
the aging of their finest wine.”

One old lady, and one young man
Sometimes say things no one else can.

Elan,

A different kind of love story, yes.  So beautiful.  I see this so clearly in my mind.

I very much enjoyed this.

Connections don't always need to be well defined.  Porches and wine will bridge many a distance and difference between two kindred souls.
This had such an easy, soft feel to it Elan and I would dare to say...a sweetness that touched my heart.  (Being rather fond of porches and old photos tucked in pockets   )

Read this gem of pen earlier today as I was headed out ... wanted to come back and read again..
Elan dear..your painting Rockwell portraits with your lovely words.

All I can feel is this distance between you and me.
I can say I love you but I can't make you believe me
because touching is believing.
