in the shadows

When the lights of Paris
are dimming,
and sunrise licks at the Rhine,
I know your day is beginning
while I'm slowly shutting down mine.

Will you join me
this evening in my dreams?
Will we walk
once again on the sands
of an empire lost to the ages?
Will you sit with me
holding my hand?

Time has granted us two things,
awareness of past lives together,
and hardships
that help us to grow.

I wish my eyes saw the future
as clearly as I see the past,
but half of each life
I spend wandering,
picking up threads from the last.

So walk with me this night,
in my dreams,
we'll stroll
by the Rivers of Time,
secure in the soft understanding
that I am your's
as you are mine.

I too spend my life in that fashion, and look forward to dreams to rekindle what I missed, and it's quite lovely.  I am so enjoying your poetry.

This is so very beautiful, Icebox, and so much more than mere writing ability I'm inclined to think.  Whatever and from wherever it comes, it speaks a truth not many people can truly understand.
