before I dive
into the deep end
and shatter any decency
that I may have possessed
the time will be made
for my case to the people

let them understand
I did not always spend myself
on such plasticized soul food
even when there was much less
to defend
I was deft enough to avoid
the carnal touch
the one that my compatriots
seemed to smother themselves with

the road I was to carve
was based
on a higher plane
yet here I sit
in the lowlands
with the mangy
and deprived
learning to mimic
their complacency
trying to achieve
the distance waged
in their bottomless eyes

no, I never wanted
to be this way
but this is where
I have been driven
by bitches
who are in and out
of heat
by animals
who capsize you
with a shrug of their shoulders
and believe that their apathy
can be passed off as
innocence

so when you see
some broken hearted soul
with her tail
between her legs
consider it to be
a step in the right direction
for someone
like me
someone
who wouldn’t be responsible
for her condition
if all those sisters in arms
hadn’t crushed the blooms
that I was trying to shoot into the sunlight
