Somewhere in America
not on company time,
I am allowed to have
a lunch break,
dance free feet
for I have been released
to dream my fantasies
for I am no longer under
the weight of the clock.

In a magic release
of my imprisoned needs,
they cannot dictate policies,
for here my mind is free
to explore for a short time,
a world of total relaxation,
no longer under a microscope.

Somewhere in America
not on company time,
the soul is set free,
to write exquisite poetry,
that rock and rolls
within your own song
from your very own verse,
for now it does not have to be
gospel to company philosophy.

Got five minutes of freedom
from scheduled drudgery of
monotonous, monotone, menial,
repetitive work cycles,
so let me splurge in the delight
of ever minute of independence,
having to hide pieces of paper
jotting down forbidden  inspirations.

Somewhere in America
not on company time,
final buzzer into freedom
my work day is over
they say they can control me
in what I can write
not on company time
but the constitution
within me rebels,
in my liberal arts of expression,
excuse me for even in America
I can claim my independence.

Note: I was disciplined at work for something I wrote away from work and someone distributed it at work. Some conservatives who did not bother to read the whole poem got upset with the language in it and the subject matter. They had me being evaluated before hearing me out in order for me to have my job. These words can be found in the daily newspapers and none of them where cuss words which would demean my work. They would not allow poetry on company property much like the White House. I parked outside until threatened and them then saying it was okay to have it in my vehicle. Now I can go into my truck at lunchtime and write poetry. I am still fighting a battle within me, and this why my poems have a disclaimer on them, “ Somewhere in America not on company time”.
