“Hey bud, How’s it going?” I asked
“Just another Tuesday” he answered.

I pondered
just another Tuesday in a string of them
yet to stretch forward and more stretching back
and he
as well as I
were wondering what this one would bring.

"There's a poem in those words" I replied.

“You tired of talking to me?” he asked.

“No bud.” I answered while the wheels turned
and I ran a bit faster to keep ahead of the question
I knew sooner or later he would ask me.

Trying to outrun my own inadequate replies
To smart mouth my way past the hints
And turn always the words to him.

“Seems you have something going on in your life.”

There
It was out there… explain myself
how I loved
A woman I couldn't quite connect with.
Explain how I was a fool
Tell about the fear…

“Yeah, bud,.”
It began, then poured out in condensed form
Admitting I did not want to be thought the fool
But was nonetheless for feeling the way I did.

He laughed, then with a bit of heat said
“you think I wanted to admit those things to you last week?”

“I know bud… I’m not good at telling.”

“I thought being a friend was more important than hiding things.”
He replied with an almost audible sigh.

“I’m sorry” I offered

“So, write that Tuesday poem.” He said to me.

Just another Tuesday

Not really,
Today I found a friend.

"There's a poem in those words" I replied.

Any day
that this sentence is uttered
is a good poem day...

but especially when uttered
on Tuesdays...

Boy did I need to hear these words on this particular Tuesday..... it's my favorite day of the week, and this one needed just a bit of decoration around the edges.....

....which it now has!

There are too many great lines in this to quote.  The above is just one part that struck a nerve with me perhaps because I know this all too well...

Just another Tuesday?  Nah, not after reading this piece.

Yeppers! You were absolutely 'write'! There was a poem in those words!

I feel like I'm eavesdropping on a personal conversation--but there's no guilt involved!

That's funny, Tuesday's been my favorite day for years.  Ever since this girl and I used to spend the day together at this little restaurant by Highland Park in B'ham.....but that's another story.
Now, about you having a friend.  I don't know about all that.  Seems to me he'd have to be damn near a saint or maybe a bit 'touched'.

boy do I know that one...it does help to have a friend..even if all you get out of it is an "I told you so...."

You are so good at telling these  stories...

I think this is so pure...a slice of reality in poetic form. Happy Tuesday. Let's hope Wednesday is just as good.

Hey Dunc...perhaps what you said
the first time, y'know?

But if that's "touched", then I wish
I'd get whomped...in order to write like this.
