Afternoon excursion -
No particular destination
Just a heart's hesitation
To let such a day
Slip away
Unnoticed.

Flying fish
And swimming bird
Might seem absurd.
But silver flashes
Above wave's crest
And dinner dangles
From pelican's pouch.

A flutter of seagulls
Are ferry's flaring train
Each hoping to gain
Tummy treasures
As bags of bread
Are emptied
For their pleasure.

On return to Galveston,
Dolphins cavorting
Have parents exhorting
Kids to look and see
Neptune's gift.
I watch and wish
You here with me.

Watching lovers embrace
I taste your kiss
For I do so miss
Being half of two.
Inhaling salt mist -
Did a drop of this water
Ever dampen your face?

Hoping for handout,
A gull looks at me
Keeping pace
Effortlessly.
I could reach and touch
But he reads my mind
And moves farther away.

He needn't have worried
I've already grasped flight.
I remember soaring
Though I've never had wings.
I only needed
You.

(smiles) Oh Suthern, this is pretty, sweet friend, I've always wanted to go there and many other places like that! I've been to Costa Rica and the U.K and am going to Ireland next month, but I'd love to go there! (kiss on cheek) This is so beautiful, sweet friend, we all love you so much! You have such a beautiful heart, sweet Suthern, thank you for sharing!

May love and light always shine upon you!

Love,

nicely done Ruth.... very nice indeed...
now, that you have garnered a good many responses over the last week and have a cadre of fans waiting to read what next you might grace is with... can you walk away and go back to hiding all those wonderful words under a rock and leave us with nothing to look forward to other than the once in a blue moon posting you are so apt to fall back into??????

I would think you a woman with heart and a sense of responsibility... to yourself..and to others.... but you tell me what now....

well you already know the moth is feeling and loving every word of this...
and you said your trip to the beach didnt inspire you??? Me thinks it infused your muse in a most lovely way.

And LOL@Ron...he sure knows how to lay on the guilt dont he??? rofl
Hed make on hell of a mother-in law

All I can feel is this distance between you and me.
I can say I love you but I can't make you believe me
because touching is believing.

Ruth,
The many facets that are you...and this is my favorite. Romantic, I love it. Bravo. More, more, please.

If tears could build a stairway and memories a lane, I'd walk right up to heaven and bring you home again.

Suthern,

This was a very nice piece and I enjoyed it...especially the last stanza.  Of course I am a little partial because I am familiar with the Ferry To Bolivar because I live in Galveston!
