Farewell to thee, dark orchid of the night,
No more your pain shall pierce life’s vein,
But e’re remain in depths of night’s requite,
Within black womb of midnight hour’s domain.
Of sorrow’s bite, you sought and gained release,
As to the stars you soar in endless wander,
No more at war with daylight’s glare; at peace
You journey now, journey far in muse’s ponder.
Behind I stay, within day’s realm of mortal’s folly,
No tear I shed, as wait for night’s unveil
For haunting voice; angelic melancholy,
Sings beauteous song of golden nightingale.
On midnight’s breeze, dark orchid of the night,
I hear thy voice, am touched by heaven’s light.

mmmmmmmmmmmmm....

I've said it before, I know, but you do write so classically beautifully. It's all there, but like spices perfectly blended you have to know what you're looking for. I found everything I love. Meter, assonance and the layered metaphor. There's probably more, but I'm still savoring those three.

Always a delight, Tim.

What I saw in this?  I fear all you might hear is a sigh...so wonderful, it is....
