You lay
on the mat
eyes clouded over
in blood sweat
and even tears

Ears ringing
over the roar
of those who'd rather
see you down

And sometimes
that's enough
for you to get up
and try again

Your bones ache
and knees wobble
under your weight
struggling back to your feet

You know
the next punch you take
may be your last
so you strike first

So powerful, the eternal challenge to stand up again even if life plays unfair sometimes.
In extreme situations we really can gather incredible power and "make it" once more.

I loved this one raph
especially these lines:

Ears ringing
over the roar
of those who'd rather
see you down

And sometimes
that's enough
for you to get up
and try again

You know
the next punch you take
may be your last
so you strike first

An attribute of a winning attitude
Excellent write my friend

Margherita grazie, I like boxing to a degree it's not as civilized or classy(yes boxing can be) as it once was. But life is simply for some a fight to the finish and all you can do is keep trying

thanks dream appreciate it..winning? I don't know..but it is attitude grin

Hmmm, I used to be the "master" of the "standing 8 count".

Maybe? I still am.

Good work here Raff!

This is one of those poems that makes you want to get up no matter how many times you fall. Thanks for the great read and inspiration!

"The lightest touch
defeats quickly
the strongest armor;
without force, it enters
where there is no seam."
~~~Lao Tzu
I like this poem a great deal.  Several men in my family line were prize money boxers.  There is an old saying, "Everyone is undefeated, until they have been hit.  Once they have been hit, they choose whether or not to get up."
