Poet Rising

Golden bar not of precious metal
Iced rod to measure deftness level
Should it be heaved to lofty place
I shall descend to depth’s disgrace
Then attempt ascent to exalted peak?
Or admit defeat in moment weak?
Forbid my rising for growing pain
Suffer not my ego great disdain

Of poet’s unveil, night introspect
I seek standard measure to respect
Thus choose not abandon verse I love
With own bar of measure I rise above

When, perchance, a poet's pen
begs the question of now and then
to find an answer within one's ink
making one to stop, ponder, then think

and from within, to raise one's bar
tells a reader "I shall go far,
let not writer's wall forbid my way
for I have much, so much, to say..."

If I may, then, walk this path with you,
to pen such thought as to leave in blue
and around us shall gather a circle of friends
to bid you well, and beg you never end

the song that is within your heart,
and poetry is where you've found your start...

Am I proud of you?
Yes, yes, indeed!
